Took the car to the dealer so they could take care of my passenger side airbag recall (yah Takata!). While they were doing that, they made a tiny rock chip in the corner of the windshield turn into a nice big crack. No phone call in advance of doing the work warning that what they were g oing to do might result in that happening. Apparently no effort made to keep the windshield from cracking. And it never entered my mind that replacing the airbag could potentially cause that to happen, which I guess is my bad. The dealership says “ turn it into your insurance and we’ll cover the deductible.” The insurance company (well, really just the agent at this point) says it’s the dealer’s fault and I really shouldn’t turn in a claim . There’s a $750 difference between my deductible and the cost of getting a new windshield installed. And now I have to waste my time dealing with this crap.

Oh, and people that sit at a stoplight on a busy multi-lane road without a turn lane and wait until the light turns green before flipping on the turn signal to go left should have their licenses revoked, be drawn and quartered, or both!

1. Your agent is right. Dealer should completely cover the windshield. T hey have insurance .  Dealer wants your premiums to rise, not theirs.

2. What’s wrong with sitting at the light and using the turn signal at the last minute? I’m extending the life of my turn signal bulbs!

No. If you’re turning, you signal. If i’m going straight I’m not going to pull behind someone turning.

oops, I missed where you said stopping in a road without a turn lane. Please carry on and shoot those people.

Dealer should cover the windshield completely.

Additionally, people who decide they want to turn left at the last second, despite traffic, from the right-most lane deserve whatever is coming to the m.

What a great car, how has the ownership experience been?

I can see the dealership’s side. You even said that the windshield was damaged. I’ve had chipped windshields that cracked overnight when the temperature dropped. You can’t prove that their work alone was the problem. It was just in their possession when it happened and it would have happened eventually. Take them up on their offer and let them pay the deductible. You don’t deserve more than that IMHO. You don’t get a payday out of this.

Now, if your windshield was damage-free, it is a completely different story.

Fantastic. I bought it in April ‘16 and absolutely love it. I go through tires too quickly, though.

Not sure why you think I want a payday. I just want to get out of the insurance company-dealer back -and-forth as it’s a huge time suck.

However, it does annoy me that the dealer never thought to mention that replacing the passenger airbag might turn the tiny rock chip into a cracked windshield.
